Feel good tips

Suddenly feeling moody or tired? Do headaches, breast tenderness or pain in the lower abdomen sound familiar to you? Don't worry! Millions of girls and women experience these during their period or a few days beforehand. Some tips to get rid of these symptoms work wonders!  You don't have to miss out on doing your favourite things even on these days!

Here are our top tips how to feel your best – during your period and also every day of the month:

1. Drink plenty of water! Some symptoms are caused by water retention. Contrary to what you might think, drinking water actually helps decrease water retention and bloating. Besides, water also helps flush the toxins out of your body. It works wonders and is so easy: even if you are on the go, you can carry a little water bottle with you.

2. Discover the power of watery fruits and vegetables. For example, watermelon and cucumber help you to stay hydrated and have a positive effect on your body.

3. Indulge with foods with high magnesium and vitamin E content. For example, bananas are high in magnesium, dried apricots are a great source of vitamin E, and avocadoes are a great source of both!

4. Be careful with salt, sugar, coffee and black tea! A balanced nutrition - not too much sugar or salt - will give you the energy you need and cut down on water retention at the same time. Also try to stay away from coffee and black tea. Yes, drinking is very important for hydration! But these products actually encourage your body to retain water.

5.  Move! There’s no need to push your body too hard, but a bit of exercise in the fresh air, like walking and cycling or swimming, often works wonders. The motion can make you feel better by stretching your tummy muscles and help the cramps go away.

6. Relax and bring on the heat! Place a hot water bottle on your tummy while you are lying on the couch, or take a warm shower or a bath to improve circulation. Heat dilates the blood vessels and relaxes the body.

7.  Indulge yourself and cheer up! Take time to go out with your friends or watch a movie. Enjoy tasty and healthy foods. By the way, dark chocolate is good for controlling your cravings and boosting your serotonin levels to lift your mood!

8. Get enough sleep! There are so many reasons why sleep is important – maintaining hormone and blood sugar levels, giving your body time to repair itself. Take a power nap in the afternoon. Using a hot water bottle or heating pad to relax can make sleeping or napping easier.
